Hey guys, I hope you guys are all having a great day and this is my review Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins. This could be counted as the second book in the Anna and the French Kiss companion trilogy.
Lola Nolan is a budding costume designer, and for her, the more outrageous, sparkly, and fun the outfit, the better. And everything is pretty perfect in her life (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket, return to the neighborhood. When Cricket, a gifted inventor, steps out from his twin sister's shadow and back into Lola's life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door.
A lot of people told me that they liked Anna and the French Kiss better—but I honestly loved this one the same! I thought that Lola was such a different and unique character that whenever she would dress up and be judged by people, I would still love her!
This book is based in San Francisco, California. I have to appreciate Perkins’ world building. Even though she is writing contemporary she builds the setting so well! Especially with the whole Dolores Park, and the way people lived, the continuous steps, I really liked it! :D I thought the whole atmosphere was great!
I loved Cricket! I thought Cricket was a nickname at first, but I guess that’s his real name! I didn’t have a problem with that, though. So that’s all good! :D I loved Lindsey, and I thought that she was a great addition, she wasn’t a major part of the story, but she was a part nonetheless. I thought that whenever she was in the story, though, it wasn’t forced or anything. I didn’t really have a problem with Max in the story at first. Then he became an asshole.
The plot pacing was great! And this story honestly wasn’t based on Lola’s relationships (romantically-wise)! It was based on so much more! I thought that Lola really accepted herself as a person by the end of the book, and I was so glad that she decided to move on with her life—but she needed time! It was really great! I really liked this book, too! Sorry, that’s honestly all I’m saying. But I really liked this book.
Overall, Lola and the Boy Next Door was a great companion/sequel to Anna and the French Kiss, and I think that they both hold the same spot for me when it comes down to picking favorites.
I would recommend Lola and the Boy Next Door to anyone who enjoyed the first book in the series. I also think that Stephanie Perkins a great author for contemporary, and more people should read this book! :D
Thanks for reading guys, and I hope you all have a great day! :D Until the next one :D
